I very specifically wanted the German version for an fine art project that was going to be a gift for a High german-loving, hobbit-loving friend of mine. I purchased the High german version, but received an English copy. Looks similar I'yard non the but person this happened to. This is really crummy, equally I idea I was getting what the listing said, but gauge not. :( Wish I had read the reviews earlier purchasing.

I love, love, love "The Hobbit," and the other stories of Heart Earth by J.R.R. Tolkien! He has a dainty writing mode, easy for school-aged readers to enjoy likewise as adults. This is the story of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (Frodo'due south uncle), and precedes the tales of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. This volume introduces Gandalf, Gollum, and the band, and informs the reader of other peoples and histories: the dwarves, the dragon, Smaug, and Wood-elves. The heroes in this book are varied and well written. The copy that I received is older and has maps, illustrations, and songs, which are all interesting and part of the story. If yous liked the books or movies of "Lord of the Rings" or the movies of "The Hobbit" than this book is for you! You will not be disappointed!

Wrong edition and not in advertised condition

I ordered a copy advertised as a German language edition and in very adept condition. The picture of the embrace showed the title in English but I have translated books with the English title on the embrace on it. Then I didn't worry since it was advertised equally German. I received the volume today. What I received was 'acceptable' status at best with the embrace coming loose and the book very beat up and it was in English. I checked the listing and this same English re-create with the same cover is however listed equally German language and in very good status. Its non either
Wonderfully written tale of adventure and finding oneself.

I admittedly enjoyed this book - a peachy world and beautiful characters. I would suggest reading information technology before the Lord of the Rings.
decent translation, still a great volume.

I must admit at the outset that I oasis't finished reading the German translation yet (I'chiliad referring to the paperback here), simply so far it's equally fun a read as the English. I've had a couple minor issues with the translation and then far, simply they're fairly trivial and may be perfectly justified by parts farther on in the book. I actually enjoy reading English-language books in translation (from Watership Downward to Red Dragon) and have also read a good deal of German language lit in English, and as translations go this seems to have lost niggling of the "feel" of Tolkien. That ways information technology can exist both dense and playful at once without being tiring. A masterful "Erzählung" in any language (that I can read, at least)!
the Hobbit

The volume the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is an audacious, fantasy tale that takes place in the land of the middle earth. Withal, fifty-fifty with many "nail-biting"/ activity sequences, this story reveals tender and moving themes. Courage, trust, and friendship are the 3 nearly ascendant themes projected in this tale of chance. On their quest to restore the dwarves wealth and pride; Bilbo, Gandalf, and the thirteen Dwarves encounter numerous challenges of both the emotional and concrete nature. Bilbo'southward revelation from a timid, do-gooder hobbit to a daring thief is the most heady transformation experienced. Though the story seems to take off at a ho-hum pace, Tolkien's descriptions actually pull the reader into the activeness. If you lot wish to read of battles with goblins, wargs, spiders, trolls, and the occasional dragon, then don't be turned off by what seems like unnecessary particular in the start. The Key, However, is to go on reading, information technology gets better.
